GNOWANGERUP HOTEL Previous to the building of the railway, Gnowangerup was known as the "dry place" with no accommodation or facilities for refreshment. The influx of railway labourers resulted in the building of the Gnowangerup Hotel. For an enterprising publican, here was a grand opening for business, so in 1911 a hotel was built. The builder (local) was George Parker and Sons, he used 300,000 locally made bricks, and it cost 5000 pounds. All building materials and provisions were carted from the railway at Broomehill by horse and wagon. Some of the well-known teamsters, J. Black, Sam Jenkins and Don McDonald participated in this project. |
